There have been a lot of changes in the field of hair transplant compared to the past. This has become one of the most demanding cosmetic surgeries in today’s world as many people around the world are falling prey to this condition. The outcome of these hair transplants has become much natural compared to the unnatural plugs that once were used.

There are many reasons that people experience hair fall, one of the most common reasons that triggers hair fall is the lifestyle that people lead today. Another common reason that could be ascribed to hair fall is use of helmets while riding two wheelers. Though there are no scientific documents to prove this there is a wide spread belief that covering the hair for long periods of time and depriving the scalp of much needed fresh hair could lead to baldness over a period of time. There are a few more reasons such as hormonal imbalance, long periods of medication, chemotherapy incase of cancer patients etc.

While the problem of hair loss or alopecia may eventually lead the sufferer into becoming more inward looking, everything is not lost in today’s world of fast changing developments in medical technology. Hair replacement and hair transplant are very commonly performed these days with amazing success rates provided the right kind of treatment is taken from experienced and capable hair surgeons. The reason that a person needs to go for a capable hair transplant surgeon is due to the fact that hair transplant is something that needs to be done with utmost care and the results can go bad if it is done by someone less experienced. There are many ways that these hair transplants can be done and mainly three methods are more common as the success rates of these methods have proved to be higher.

The first and the most common method is the Follicular Unit Strip Surgery. The method involves the transplant of hair by removing the scalp from a healthy part of the head and then transplanting it on to the area which is balding. The method is useful for cases which experience average to extreme baldness. The place from where the scalp is removed needs to be stitched and this takes some time to heal. The problem with this method is that a scar is made on the donor region and thereby is not preferred by people. The cost of this method is comparatively cheaper than the other two methods.

The second method is the Follicle Unit Extraction. This method of hair transplant is much more popular than the latter as the transplant is done in a very natural way and it copies the way real hair grows. Real hair grows in groups of four and this is the way this transplant is done. The biggest advantage of this method is that the hair looks natural as the transplant is done the way real hair grows and the other advantage is that there are no major scars that are made on the scalp as no deep cutting is involved and the time for these minor cuts to recover is also very less.

The third method is comparatively recent and is performed rarely. The method involves the removal of the scalp where the baldness has occurred and the hair bearing scalp is stretched in order to compensate the growth of the bald area. The method is very costly and requires the transplant to be performed by a highly qualified and experienced surgeon. As the skin is stretched the hair growth becomes thinner and this is the biggest disadvantage of this process.
